This project highlights Gentle Monster, a Korean eyewear brand recognized for its experimental approach to design, bold aesthetics, and innovative craftsmanship. Focusing on the 2024 Optical Collection, Gentle High School, the concept reimagines the high school experience through the brand’s futuristic and unconventional lens.
Through minimal white backgrounds, school-inspired styling, and striking model poses, the visual direction emphasizes the collection’s daring identity while showcasing Gentle Monster’s distinctive blend of fashion, art, and design.
Brand Identity
Spreads
To support the bold identity of the brand and collection, I developed a type system that reflects Gentle Monster’s experimental and confident aesthetic. After exploring several options, I selected Proxima Nova, a versatile sans-serif with modern proportions and subtle geometric qualities that complement the brand’s striking visual language.
The color palette remains minimal and impactful, built around black and white with a deep red accent. This combination creates a clean foundation while reinforcing the collection’s bold, contemporary tone.
The catalog begins with a striking cover image from the collection, chosen to capture the bold, effortless attitude associated with the brand. To organize the content, I developed a flat plan and built the layout using a flexible grid system that balanced imagery and typography throughout the spreads.
Lifestyle pages highlight the eyewear on models and showcase the products from multiple angles to emphasize their unique craftsmanship and details. Informational sections, including care instructions and terms and conditions, use clean, minimal layouts to present essential information clearly without distracting from the overall design.
